Origami Masterpieces: Ranunculus

Spring is in the air today! Here's a little taste of what's coming as spring unfolds - beautiful Ranunculus from the Spring Flower Show at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens. With their brilliant hues, rose-like blossoms and many layers of intricate petals, they look like origami masterpieces!

Interesting Tidbits about this Flower:

  • This species comes from the Middle East, hence its common name: Persian (or Turban) Buttercup.

  • The name comes from the Latin word 'rana' which means 'little frog'. A reference to the fact that many wild species were found in wet areas.

  • All Ranunculus species are poisonous when eaten fresh by livestock, but their bitter taste means they are usually left untouched.

  • In the Language of Flowers, ranunculi mean 'radiant charm'.

  • Also known as Coyote's Eyes: Legend has it that the mythological Coyote was tossing his eyes up in the air and catching them when Eagle snatched them. Unable to see, Coyote created eyes from the buttercup.

IN LOVE by Soul Full Sanctuary Photography

“In love, treat your relationship as if you are growing the most beautiful flower. Keep watering it, tend to its roots, give it lots of sunlight, and always make sure the petals are full of color and are never curling. Once you neglect your plant, it will die, as will your relationship.”

~ Suzy Kassem

THE FLOWER OF LOVE by Soul Full Sanctuary Photography

"Love Has a way of wilting Or blossoming At the strangest, Most unpredictable hour. This is how love is, An uncontrollable beast In the form of a flower. The sun does not always shine on it. Nor does the rain always pour on it Nor should it always get beaten by a storm. Love does not always emit the sweetest scents, And sometimes it can sting with its thorns. Water it. Give it plenty of sunlight. Nurture it, And the flower of love will Outlive you. Neglect it or keep dissecting it, And its petals will quickly curl up and die. This is how love is, Perfection is a delusional vision. So love the person who loves you Unconditionally, And abandon the one Who only loves you Under favorable Conditions.” ~ Suzy Kassem, The Weather of Love
